The Correct Use of Money

Wealth and Poverty

Multimedia

There are some excellent online videos that make you think about what you do with your money:

The Meatrix - A superb animation, based on The Matrix but with Moopheus the cow. It was made to educate people about where meat products come from. The first installment deals with factory farming
The Meatrix II - Revolting: The second installment was even better than the first. My favourite moment is when Agent Smith turns up (there are many Agent Smiths) and says to Leo the pig "How nice of you to join us, Mr Hamderson". It raises issues about dairy farms and an artificial growth hormone used in America.
The Meatrix 2.5: The shortest of the films, the Meatrix 2.5 deals with meat production for 'fast food'. It's good, but it leaves you hoping for another entry into the series..
Grocery Store Wars - This superb film pits organic fruit and vegetables against the dark side of the farm... The description of the force as a sort of 'field' is great. Look out for the line "Search your peelings..." and the appearance of Ham Solo's side-kick. The message here is about choosing organic food.
Big Box Mart - This is aimed squarely at the world's largest company, Walmart. It's just over 2 minutes long, but the song will stay in your head for weeks. As for the message about the dangers of supporting big corporations like Walmart? Well, watch it and see...

There are also some films that are strongly recommended:

What would Jesus buy - A Morgan Spurluk documentary that focuses on the issues of the commercialization of Christmas, materialism, the over-consumption in American culture, globalization, and the business practices of large corporations. "Reverend Billy," and his troupe of activists perform in a church choir called "The Church of Stop Shopping," that sings anti-shopping and anti-corporate songs.

Mc Libel - Helen Steel and Dave Morris were just two ordinary people handing out leaflets about McDonalds that claimed the food was bad for you and they treated their workers badly. They were sued, and the case became the longest one in English legal history, costing McDonalds over £10 million. This tells their heroic story - an amazing documentary that should inspire all of us.
