Equality in the modern world
Students may study one or more issues concerning either or
both sexual and racial equality. Issues may include the status of
homosexual partnerships and matters arising from this such as
adoption, surrogacy, same-sex parents, the nature of marriage
and civil partnerships, homosexual clergy, homophobia and
other attitudes towards homosexuality in the religious and
secular world. The status of women in religious and/or secular
fields, including for example women in the family, in business,
as religious leaders or in the political world. Issues such as
sexism, feminism, and patriarchalism could all provide useful
starting points for discussion. Issues in racial equality could
include Black-White relations, civil rights, relationships between
the Muslim community and the West, racism, prejudice and
discrimination and religious and ethical attitudes to these issues.
